Media nights at Woods of Terror are some of the most rewarding nights we have at the haunt. This is a somewhat new tradition that occurs during the first night of haunt season and the first night of every off-season event. Media professionals from different levels of the industry are invited to record inside the haunted houses and interview the Woods of Terror team about our creative processes.
The footage captured during these events have contributed a great deal to the growth of our haunt family. Most of the viral clips of our monsters interacting with our guests comes from authentic footage captured by our media night attendees.
One of the highlights of this event is content creators, streamers and other media professionals are invited to join our creative team for a Q&A session. Also, during that time, media night attendees are swarmed by some of our monsters, presenting them with unique photo opportunities. Questions such as, “What can we expect tonight?”, or “How many actors do you have this season?” and even “Where is the guy with the snake?” are some of the most frequently asked. Sidenote, the “guy with the snake” is our founder and owner Eddie McLaurin, aka “Bone Daddy”.
We love seeing some of our regulars in the media world return year after year. They give us insight into how the public feels about the atmosphere at Woods of Terror and how they themselves feel about changes made at the haunt. Often the feedback we get from these events is very helpful by offering us new things to consider as we amplify our haunted houses and overall guest experience. Providing a highly energetic, friendly yet terrifying environment is something that we at Woods of Terror pride ourselves on doing. The type of information provided after media night enlightens us on ways to stay true to that commitment.
With their fast pass access, media night attendees get to enter the haunt whenever they would like, once the actors are in place. This gives them the opportunity to experience our haunted houses with a fresh set of eyes and capture our scare actors at peak moments throughout the night. Attendees are even welcomed to film interactions inside of the haunt to share online with their followers.
“This is the scariest haunt in North Carolina!” is often a comment we find popping up under a video that was captured during media night. Comments like this are refreshing and helpful to hear, but the ones that aren’t as uplifting are just as helpful as the positive ones. Anything that isn’t positive that’s brought to light surrounding a media night event is handled with care and the Woods of Terror team always uses it as a teaching moment.
Media night attendees are often very familiar with the ins and outs of our 17 haunted houses. This is part of the reason why our team is dedicated to constantly changing up the décor or theme of our haunt. A new look to a favorite haunted house keeps content captured by invited media professionals fresh. The Woods of Terror team doesn’t want media night attendees to come during haunt season and film a haunted house, then come back during an off-season event, such as Krampus, and that haunted house look the same as it did when they were at the last media night event. We have our creative director Ryan Visingard and head Carpenter Nathan Fultz to thank for that!
Lauren Everett Marte aka “Lo Thee Vampiress” is one of our new social media managers and the scare actor who host our livestreams. She communicates with all our media night attendees about logistics and content expectations while building long term relationships. Erika Jones aka “Lucy Lucifer” is the other half to the social media management team. She has been with Woods of Terror for over 18 years as a scare actor and has served in many other departments throughout her time at the haunt. Her connections with media professionals in the haunt industry is invaluable to the Woods of Terror team.
Overall, media night has become a staple at Woods of Terror. We love the camaraderie amongst the media night attendees and the Woods of Terror team as well as the bond they share with our haunt family in the community. These media professionals have become a part of the voice of Woods of Terror. They also are a part of what makes the haunt industry such a wonderful industry to be in.
Thank you to all the creators who join us for our media nights. We appreciate your love and dedication to capturing the terrifyingly beautiful haunt that is the legendary Woods of Terror. Without you, there is no us. Woods of Terror has no plans on stopping this tradition and hopes to see the list of attendees grow in the future. We have many new attractions opening this season and can’t wait for our media warriors to capture them all.
This 2026 haunt season, we will continue to show why Woods of Terror is the scariest haunt in North Carolina by letting our media professionals emphasize how we are going bigger than ever before, by being better than the rest, resulting in us being the BEST. In the words of our fearless leader Bone Daddy, “We are bigger, we are better, we are the best!”
