If you work in the haunt industry, you know that September isn’t really September. Around here, we lovingly call it Septober. While most people are still trying to hold onto summer, haunted attractions all over the country are already opening their gates, actors are getting into character, and haunt crews are officially entering the busiest time of the year.

At Woods of Terror, Septober means one thing: it’s time to get serious.

The months leading up to opening night are filled with construction, painting, repairs, character development, rehearsals, training, makeup tests, wardrobe, maintenance, and about a million other things that guests never see. There is always something left to do, even when you think you’ve finally finished everything. A haunted attraction is never really “done.” There’s always another detail to improve, another scare to test, another costume to adjust, or another piece of the experience that can be made better.

Then September arrives, and suddenly the countdown feels very real.

One of the biggest parts of preparing for the season is getting our cast ready. At Woods of Terror, our actors aren’t simply handed a costume and told to go scare people. We spend time training, developing characters, building confidence, and making sure our performers understand how to work their scenes. Our cast includes experienced performers and newer actors, and every person brings something different to the table. The goal is to take those individual strengths and turn them into an incredible overall experience for our guests.

Septober is also when everything starts coming together. The sets that have been under construction become finished environments. Characters who have been developing behind the scenes finally step in front of guests. New ideas get put to the test. The lights come on, the sound starts rolling, and suddenly the haunt we’ve been talking about for months is no longer just a project.

It’s real.

There’s also something special about watching other haunted attractions begin opening during September. Haunt season is one of the few times of year when an entire industry seems to come alive at once. Attractions across the country are welcoming their first guests, actors are stepping into character, and haunt fans are finally getting the Halloween season they’ve been waiting for all year.

And yes, while everyone else is still talking about pumpkin spice and football, we’re already thinking about fog, makeup, monsters, and how many times an actor can scream the same line before their voice gives out.

That’s Septober.

For us, the beginning of September isn’t just another month on the calendar. It’s the final stretch before another legendary season at Woods of Terror. It’s when all of the work, planning, training, and creativity finally gets put to the test.

By the time the gates open, our goal is simple: we want our guests to forget how much work went into creating the experience. We want them to walk through the gates and feel like they’ve entered another world. We want them to laugh, scream, jump, and walk away with a story to tell.

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It takes a team. It takes preparation. It takes months of work behind the scenes and the willingness to keep pushing until everything is ready.

So while the rest of the world is still enjoying the last days of summer, Woods of Terror is already deep into Septober.

And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Because September means the wait is almost over.

The monsters are ready. The actors are ready. The gates are almost ready to open.

Welcome to Septober at Woods of Terror.

Bigger. Better. The Best.
