Every fall, as the air turns crisp and Halloween starts creeping closer, thousands of people across North Carolina (and all over the country) start making plans for one thing: their annual trip to Woods of Terror.
For some, it’s a date night. For others, it’s a yearly tradition with family or friends. We see people who came here as teenagers now bringing their own kids to experience the screams. That’s something we’ll never take for granted. Traditions like that aren’t built overnight. They happen when you give people a reason to come back year after year.
For the last 35 years, that’s exactly what we’ve set out to do.
When Woods of Terror opened in 1991, the goal was simple: create a haunted house people would never forget. Thirty-five seasons later, we’ve grown into one of the most recognized haunted attractions in the country, welcoming guests from all over the country who make the trip to Greensboro every fall.
While everyone else is packing away Halloween decorations in November, we’re already thinking about next season. Our crew spends the off-season building, designing, painting, wiring, creating, and dreaming up what’s next. Attractions get expanded, special effects get upgraded, new characters come to life, and our actors spend months training before opening night. We don’t believe in putting on the same show year after year. If you’ve visited before, we want you to find something new the next time you walk through our gates. That’s one of the reasons Woods of Terror has become a tradition for so many people. Woods of Terror is about more than just the haunted houses.
The Midway has become an attraction of its own. Before you ever enter the darkness, you can grab a Banshee Brew, catch Crypt Kicker performing live, meet our legendary Midway monsters, enjoy great food, pick up exclusive merchandise, and take plenty of photos. For a lot of guests, hanging out on the Midway has become just as much a part of the tradition as walking through the attractions themselves.
But if you ask us what really makes Woods of Terror special, the answer is easy: it’s the people. Every season, hundreds of actors, makeup artists, carpenters, painters, technicians, security staff, and crew members come together with one goal: to create the best haunted house experience possible. Their passion is what brings every scene to life. Many of our cast members actually started as guests. They grew up coming to Woods of Terror, fell in love with the experience, and eventually decided they wanted to be part of creating it. Now they’re the ones making memories for the next generation of visitors. That’s pretty incredible when you think about it.
That’s what makes Woods of Terror more than a haunted house.
It’s a tradition.
As we celebrate our 35th legendary season, we’re grateful to everyone who has made Woods of Terror part of their Halloween story. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or you’ve been coming for decades, we’re always working to make this season better than the last. So if you’re looking for the best haunted house in North Carolina, planning a Halloween weekend near Greensboro, or searching for a tradition you’ll want to come back to every fall, we’d love to welcome you to Woods of Terror.
Come see why generations of guests have made us part of their Halloween tradition.
Bigger. Better. The Best.
